We believe in creating original fragrances with character, contrast and a point of view. Not copies of something you've smelled a hundred times before.

Every SPITEFUL AUGUST fragrance is created by Scott Wolf, the house's founder and perfumer.
From the first idea to the final formula, Scott develops each fragrance himself, working with natural ingredients and modern aroma molecules to create compositions that are original, distinctive and unapologetically individual.
SPITEFUL AUGUST was founded by Scott and Ryan Fox, bringing together a shared vision for an independent fragrance house that refuses to follow the crowd.
We wanted a name that was as unique and playful as the fragrance house itself. Something with a little rebellion, a mischievous streak and just enough naughtiness to make people look twice.
SPITEFUL AUGUST isn't meant to be taken too seriously. We take our perfumery seriously, absolutely. Ourselves? Not quite so much.
We believe perfumery should be creative, original and a little unpredictable.
We don't create fragrances to imitate what's already popular. We create them because we have something of our own to say.
We're serious about the craft, but we don't believe the world of niche fragrance needs to take itself quite so seriously.

We work with high concentrations of fragrance materials, combining naturals and modern aroma molecules to create compositions with character, depth and movement.

Some compositions lean warmer, darker, softer or brighter, but none of those qualities belongs to a particular gender.

Each fragrance has its own personality, but all three share our love of contrast and unexpected transitions.
CÁRDA is a bold exploration of cardamom, with its spicy green character softened by pear, creamy vanilla and warm woods.
BOHEMIA takes dark, earthy patchouli somewhere unexpected, wrapping it in creamy coconut, soft florals and a warm oriental finish.
COYA moves between green mandarin, delicate rose, saffron and suede. Fresh and bright at first, then softer, warmer and more sensual as it develops.
They're three very different fragrances, but each has something unmistakably SPITEFUL AUGUST about it.

We share an appreciation for creative fragrance composition, but we're not trying to be the next Byredo or Le Labo. We're interested in developing our own identity, not borrowing someone else's.
Every fragrance is created in-house, handmade in small batches and composed at extrait concentrations of 30% to 33%.
We'd rather you discover us because we smell different, not because we remind you of something you already own.
We create our fragrances with longevity and performance firmly in mind. They're extraits de parfum, composed at concentrations between 30% and 33%, but concentration alone doesn't determine how long a fragrance will last.
Skin chemistry, temperature, environment and how you apply your perfume all influence its performance.
Our fragrances are designed to develop over time, revealing different facets as they settle into the skin. You may also find that fragrance lasts considerably longer on clothing than it does on skin.
We don't believe in promising an exact number of hours. We'd rather create perfumes that perform beautifully and let you discover how they behave on you.

We'd always recommend checking with individual stockists before travelling to make sure the fragrance you're interested in is available to try.
Don't be shy with it. We certainly weren't when we made it.
Apply your fragrance to pulse points, particularly your wrists, neck and the creases of your elbows. A few sprays on your clothing can also help the scent linger, and a light mist through your hair can be rather wonderful too.
And a word for the perfume rubbers and smudgers among you. Please stop. Immediately. We will find out.
Rubbing your wrists together doesn't magically destroy fragrance molecules, but it can change how the opening is experienced. We've spent a considerable amount of time creating the way each fragrance evolves, so we'd rather you let it do its thing.
Spray it. Wear it. Enjoy it. And let the perfume speak for itself.
And when you want to spray more, do it. There's no rule about how much perfume you should wear or how often. It's your bottle. Go for it!
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it.
Fragrance can linger beautifully on clothing, sometimes considerably longer than it does on skin. Just be mindful of delicate or light-coloured fabrics, as perfume oils can occasionally leave marks. Test an inconspicuous area first.
You can also lightly mist your hair, although our extraits contain alcohol, so we'd avoid saturating it or spraying directly onto your scalp.
Personally, we think perfume should be enjoyed, not rationed. Your skin, your clothes, your hair. Make it your own.
Perfume prefers a little stability in its life. Unlike us.
Keep your SPITEFUL AUGUST fragrance somewhere cool, dry and away from direct sunlight or significant changes in temperature.
A bedroom drawer, cupboard or even its original box is ideal. The bathroom might look like the obvious place, but the constant changes in heat and humidity make it less suitable.
Look after your perfume and it'll reward you by keeping its character for longer.
And no, you don't need to keep it in the fridge.
Perfume doesn't suddenly stop being wearable on a particular date, but its composition can change over time.
Exposure to heat, sunlight and air can gradually affect the fragrance, particularly its more delicate opening notes.
A well-stored perfume can remain in good condition for years, although there's no universal lifespan. If the colour, smell or appearance changes significantly, particularly if it develops an unpleasant or unusual odour, we'd recommend exercising caution.
Treat your perfume well, but don't spend so much time preserving it that you forget to enjoy wearing it.
Your perfume has probably had quite the journey getting to you.
If your bottle has been exposed to particularly hot or cold temperatures during transit, we'd recommend allowing it to return naturally to room temperature before wearing it.
Temperature can influence how we perceive a fragrance, but there's no scientific reason to believe a perfume needs days or weeks to recover from something called travel shock.
If your fragrance smells noticeably different from how you've experienced it before, please contact us. We'd much rather investigate a genuine concern than have you wondering whether something is wrong.
After all, our fragrances can be a little bonkers by design. Unexpected is rather our thing.

As with any perfume, individual sensitivities can occur. If you know you're sensitive to a particular ingredient, we recommend checking the ingredient information before wearing it.
Every SPITEFUL AUGUST fragrance is handmade in small batches, following the same carefully developed formula.
Because we work with natural ingredients alongside modern aroma molecules, there will be variations in colour from batch to batch. Natural materials aren't identical every time they're harvested or produced.
Our Indonesian patchouli is a perfect example. Its colour can vary considerably between batches, which can influence the colour of the finished perfume.
But while the colour may change, the overall composition and fragrance remain true to the original formula.
That's the beauty of working with natural materials. A little variation is part of the process, not a flaw.
Absolutely. Our 50 ml perfume bottles and 5 ml discovery samples are both within the usual 100 ml limit for liquids in hand luggage.
Just make sure you follow the liquid restrictions at your departure airport, as security procedures can vary.
We recommend keeping your perfume securely packed to prevent leaks or damage during your journey.
After all, there's no reason your favourite fragrance shouldn't come on holiday with you.
