One gets lost in formulas, unusual materials and ideas that might never work. The other sees the bigger picture, gives those ideas an identity and makes sure they actually happen.
Scott creates the fragrance. Ryan creates the world it belongs to.

THE PERFUMER
Scott is the self-taught nose behind SPITEFUL AUGUST.
He creates every fragrance from scratch, with a fascination for unusual combinations, unexpected contrasts and the way a scent can change completely on the skin.
Some ideas work. Some don't. The interesting ones are worth pursuing.

«I've always thought of perfume a little like cinema.
I love the films that leave you sitting in silence as the credits roll. You're not quite sure what to think. Then, somewhere on the journey home, it clicks. You realise you loved it. You can't quite explain why. You just know it made you feel something.
That's what I want from my fragrances.
Something that stays with you. Something that reveals itself over time, rather than giving everything away in the opening moments.
I'm not interested in recreating someone else's success. The possibility of making something genuinely original is what keeps me creating.
Because creating perfume is one thing. Creating something original is everything.»

Ryan is the eye behind SPITEFUL AUGUST.
From the visual identity and design to the way the brand looks, feels and presents itself, his fingerprints are everywhere.
He's also the driving force that turns a studio full of ideas into an actual perfume house.
Without him, Scott would probably still be surrounded by bottles, happily experimenting with his next cool fragrance idea.
Every fragrance is developed, blended and bottled by hand in Spain.
It's a small operation. Intentionally so.
No mass production. No marketing committee deciding what comes next. Just curiosity, experimentation and the freedom to follow an idea wherever it leads.
